When the man who started it all, who cares for his co-workers as much as Ralph Houck cared for his players, and who embodies TD SYNNEX as Derek Jeter does the Yankees, departs for a well-deserved retirement, what can you even say? Today, August 31, 2023, we must figure that out as we bid a fond farewell to Bill Maroney, TD SYNNEX Senior Marketing Manager. Maroney has been an unbelievable force since he joined the marketing team 13 years ago (On a side note: maybe it’s a coincidence, but we won’t let it slip past us that A-Rod switched to the number 13 when he joined the Yankees in 2004). As Maroney enters his next journey of retirement, we take a look back at some of his many contributions, especially the EDGE360 program, that will forever mark his legacy at TD SYNNEX.

A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication

Maroney has had a remarkable professional life, and although everyone who works with him will miss him immensely, there’s no one they think is more deserving of a break than Bill. He started his first job as a newspaper delivery boy around twelve years old. While attending St. John’s University, he was an editor and reporter for the Staten Island Advance newspaper, and later on he worked for AT&T with the Telecom Pioneers Group, which is what brought him to Colorado. Maroney then started with Comstor back in 2010, when Molly Sherwood, Senior Director of Marketing, TD SYNNEX, said he quickly became a prominent figure in the Colorado office. A seasoned professional, he led the Cisco marketing team with a rare combination of expertise and warmth. During his tenure, he remained steadfast through major changes, from the Westcon-Comstor merger to eventually becoming TD SYNNEX.

Under his guidance, the Glen Grise and Damon Craft Awards have continued and flourished, recognizing individuals who showcased excellence with integrity – a testament to Maroney’s commitment to nurturing professional growth and ethical values. In 2014, seeking innovative ways to connect partners with important updates on tech, solutions, and larger messages that support their business and growth, Maroney started EDGE360. In the almost decade that EDGE360 has existed under his leadership, the online publication continues to evolve, providing valuable information to both partners and customers alike.

Guiding with a Little Fun and a Lot of Heart

With a heart that knows no bounds, Maroney’s leadership style is a blend of mentorship and camaraderie, fostering an environment where teamwork has thrived. Autumn NeSmith, Senior Marketing Manager, TD SYNNEX, described how he led the team like a coach. “He held the bar high and helped us reach it. When we were thrown a curve ball, he kept calm, positive, and motivating, always putting the needs of the team before his own,” she said. “He’s an excellent manager and a trustworthy friend.”

For those who didn’t know him and haven’t caught on, Maroney is a Yankees fanatic. His frequent sports analogies and his trademark New York humor were well-known and appreciated throughout the office, creating moments that will forever be cherished. During his retirement, Sherwood said Maroney plans to enjoy time with his grandson and identify what his walk-on song for the Yankees will be once he (eventually) makes the team.

A Testimony of Respect and Admiration

Colleagues, both past and present, speak of Maroney with immense respect and admiration, painting a vivid picture of a manager who transcended the boundaries of leadership. Alexandria Villaverde, Vendor Marketing Manager, TD SYNNEX, found it hard to find the words to describe how rewarding it has been working with him over the years. “You won’t find a more genuine manager, person, friend, or NY Yankees fan. Bill genuinely cared about his team and set us up for success. He inspired us, led us, and supported us. He embodied ‘work hard, play hard,’ and you won’t meet another person who works or plays harder than he does,” she shared.

His legacy encompasses the importance of work-life balance, a relentless pursuit of excellence, and an unwavering willingness to learn from mistakes. In Maroney’s world, setbacks were not defeats but opportunities for growth – a philosophy that has become woven into the DNA of the teams he led. “Because of him, our marketing materials were always grammatically correct. Bill knew this company and his role as a marketing professional from the inside out. That’s why he was the best person to spin copy, create content, and edit with a bleeding pen. His standard in everything he set his mind to was nothing short of perfection,” Villaverde declared.

A Pathway to Balance and Celebration

As we bid farewell to Bill Maroney, we do so with gratitude for the profound impact he has had on so many lives at TD SYNNEX and beyond. While his professional journey with us comes to a close, a new chapter unfolds as he embarks on spending cherished moments with his grandson and creating new memories. Maroney’s legacy is imprinted in the annals of our history, a beacon of inspiration and a reminder that leadership, dedication, and a touch of fun can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
